Surprise

Question 2: Imagination and Invention

Use the shapes given below (Circle, Triangle, Square) to express the idea of SURPRISE. Make an interesting composition using these shapes. Make ONLY abstract responses [in other words, no cats, faces, or any recognizable objects]. Shapes may be repeated. Pay attention to scale, contrast, composition and depth.

For this question, I wanted to express the idea of Surprise with the theme of parallel universes and liminality. I thought about how to create a shape that is surprising and thought about these shapes as 3D objects; Sphere, Cube, and Pyramid. I recalled a youtube video on creating a mathematical fomula that could inverse the sphere without collapsing the shape, which is theoratical in nature, but impossible physically. This was pretty intriguing and surprising to me, thus I created the whole universe base on the inversing sphere shape. I decided to depict duality by copying the inversing sphere, with the base of a cuboid. The connecting features of the two universes are the triangle arms of the stars, which is depicted as a pyramid in the square universe, and a cone in the circle universe. It is an artistic representation of parallel universes which are vastly different in basic elements, yet similar in construct.

I really love the idea behind the artwork but I could definitely improve on the shading technical skills. (at least back then)
